What is the value of American money?
I was looking around the internet and discovered a site called the Liberty Dollar. Basically is silver stamped denominations in coins by troy ounce. I can understand the face the face value of money in terms of precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum and have an actual value. Legal tender in any denomination is worth merely what the cost it takes to print it. So is 20 dollars worth only 3 cents in all actuality as there is no value to back it? Only because the Fed Res. says its worth 20 dollars. It's confusing in terms of economics. The euro fluctates and is worth more on their legal tender but why? Paper is paper. Could someone enlighten me?
You usually measure the value of fiat currencies with exchange rates, but in the case you're speaking of, you would value it in purchasing power, or the standard of living of that country, which usually reflects GDP of that nation. But in forex trading you normally follow that country's central bank, e.g. interest rates and inflation, and the country's economic affairs to determine a value of that currency.
I see what you're inferring though. If a country did follow a sound currency, whether that be a currency with some kind of intrinsic value or interest rates that set with the equilibrium of the natural markets, it would greatly increase that country's GNP and help prevent against bubbles as "easy" money would be harder to come by. But as for now, as long as you can take a dollar to the nearest restaurant and exchange it for a hamburger, that currency has purchasing value and is relevant.
United States Coin Collection is the Backbone of Coin Collectors World Over
Coin collectors abound in the world in the thousands. This might seem like a large enough figure, but when you compare a world population of over six billion and climbing, it’s a small figure indeed. And what makes the United States coin collectors and their coin collections even more valuable is their ongoing contribution to the world of coin collecting.
Many of these people will look for good coins that have an interesting history behind them. These coins that they select will have to be in a good condition. The condition that coin dealers and coin experts agree as being worthy of being in a collection is where the amount of wear and tear on a coin is not too much for lots of damage to have occurred.
As there are some very interesting United States coin collections that we can see, you might want to start your collection with one particular type of coin. Challenge coins are a good place to start your United States coin collection. These coins are distinctly American in nature and origin as they are specifically made for the United States military services.
