O 'tis a misty morning white and cold
The early hours are still except the breeze
Awakened from the valleys gently wheeze
And wander round the barn and wooden fold
The lambs are silent, oxen still asleep
The christmas tree stand dreaming of the night
The dawn is clouded in a shady light
And drowsy shadows fall on snowy heaps
An hour from now the children may awake
My darling wife will ring the chore of day
The festive time shall have the wine and cake
And warmth of joy to drive the tears away
As from my window I will lean to see
My daughter playing round the christmas tree
